Chapter 5

Evaluating sources is going to be one of the most important steps in the research process because it is the factual basis of your entire project. Peer-reviewed and scholarly articles are of high value because their credibility can be accounted for. Sources must contain a significant amount of evidence to prove why they are worthy of use. A lack of evidence backing the statements probably is a sign that there is no evidence and the credibility should questioned. If the author is well known it is probably safe to say the source is a good one versus an unknown author or publisher you might look twice at. The dates of the sources and information collected should be considered because you do not want out dated information others may know to be no longer correct. Information such as this may make a reader stop reading completely. The source should presented in a logical and comprehendible manner to establish it’s worthiness. I have notice particularly in websites and online sources that the relevance and credibility should be examined a bit more than a book or magazine. There are too many fake and fluffed articles out there to persuade people in one way or another.
